Paying for your Shih Tzu

Site Map

We regret that this page sounds so stiff and legal.  However, we do want to make sure that all terms related to a sale are accurately described to the best of our ability (and Luke was a CPA before he retired, so his writing often reads this way).

If any of these terms are a problem for you, we are open to discussing alternative payment arrangements.  Just tell us about your situation (preferably by calling us at 361-334-3326).

We accept payment in US currency or by wire transfer, personal check, cashier’s check or money order payable on a United States bank in US dollars.  We will give you our mailing address or bank account information after we make the payment arrangement with you.  We cannot accept any negotiable instrument drawn on a non-US entity (this includes foreign postal money orders).

We ask you to text or email a picture of the payment document to us so we can mobile deposit it.

Deposit on a specific puppy

We will place a specific puppy "on hold" for you ONLY after we receive your payment.  Therefore, we strongly recommend using PayPal for your initial deposit since any other form of payment includes a risk that the puppy could be sold to someone else before we receive your deposit.  The amount of that payment is determined by the age of the puppy as follows:

under the age of 4 weeks

25% of the purchase price holds the puppy until 4 weeks of age,

by which time an additional 25% of the purchase price is required.

under the age of 12 weeks

50% of the purchase price holds the puppy until 12 weeks of age,

by which time the full purchase price + other related costs is required

      over 12 weeks of age

full purchase price + other related costs

If multiple buyers are interested in the same puppy, the first payment we receive determines which buyer gets the puppy.

Balance of Purchase Price (and other related costs)

The balance of the purchase price (and any other related costs) must be paid to us and clear collection before we deliver or ship a puppy.  Payment by personal check should reach us at least 10 days before delivery; payment by money order or cashier’s check should reach us at least 6 days before delivery; payment by wire transfer should be credited to our account at least 2 days before delivery.

If, for the buyer’s convenience, we agree to hold and care for the puppy beyond 12 weeks of age, we charge an additional $3.00 per day plus any medical expenses.  However, this arrangement does not extend the time for final payment to be made.

What happens if Buyer changes mind after making a payment on a puppy?

General Principle behind our policy on refunds:  We designed our policy on refunds with the intent of returning as much as reasonable to our buyer without decreasing the amount we would have gotten for the sale to that buyer.

If the puppy has not yet been delivered, we will make the puppy available for sale again.  When the puppy sells, we will refund the original purchase price less $100 to the original Buyer, up to the amount we sell the puppy for, less any portion of the original purchase price not yet paid by the original Buyer, and less $3.00 per day and medical expenses from the age of 12 weeks until the puppy is delivered to the new Buyer.

Example:   The original buyer agreed to buy a puppy for $1,800, and had paid $900 of that amount prior to cancelling the sale when the puppy was 11 weeks old.  We resold the puppy for $1,700 and delivered it to the new buyer at 14 weeks of age.  The potential $800 refund to the original buyer is reduced by $100 for the lower price we got in reselling the puppy and by $42 for the daily fee for keeping the puppy 14 days beyond the age of 12 weeks.  Thus, the refund is for $658.

If the puppy has been delivered, the buyer will deliver the puppy (along with the AKC registration papers) back to us.  We will make the puppy available for sale again.  When the puppy sells, we will refund to original Buyer the amount we sell the puppy for, less $200, and less $3.00 per day and medical expenses until the puppy is delivered to the new Buyer.  Please be aware that re-sold puppies hardly ever sell for as much as they did the first time.  Age will adversely affect resale value, as will cutting down the coat.  Reselling a puppy that has been registered with AKC by the first buyer will also hurt resale value.  We will strike the best financial deal we can on the resale, but are primarily concerned with finding a good home for the puppy.  We reserve the right to re-home a returned puppy with no fee at all to the new owner.

Example:  The original buyer bought a puppy for $1,800 and returned it to us four months after they had gotten it from us.  We resold the puppy 4 weeks later for $1,200 and delivered it to the new buyer.  The refund would be $1,800, less $200 fee, less $600 for the lower price we got in reselling the puppy, less $84 for the 28 days we kept the puppy here after it was returned, for a net sum of $916.

Notice:  We cannot ship or deliver puppies on an “approval” basis (other than as covered by our Health Guarantee).  Ask your questions before you send the money.  Do NOT send money unless you are fully prepared to commit to the purchase of the puppy and provide it a loving home for its lifetime (up to 18 years).
